Manto. Indian born (later moved to Pakistan) writer. Tried for Obscenity several times. But really he wasnt so obscene. His observations about the partition and events thereafter, the reflection of acute fundamentalism present in society and dissection of human character is something not to be missed. My life changed for the better after reading that two page story called Toba Tek Singh. Respect.
The Muslim Next Door: The Qu'ran, The Media and That Veil Thing, was one of those books I thumbed through at the public library and immediately became hooked. The author has written an easy to understand, upbeat, sometimes funny, guide to her faith, and brings a personal touch to the subject of how American Muslims live, worship, and handle incorrect perceptions of their lives. I liked this book so much, I ended up buying a couple of copies for family & friends. ~~ Houston Foodlovers Book Club
