Mud and spiders

A dark colored mud dauber from central Benin (collection from 1997). This wasp lives in miombo forests with 6 months of drought. The pointed and long mandibles are used to collect mud to build nests. The nests are often seen in crevices, old trees and houses. The impressive jaws are also used to hunt spiders that are brought to the nest.
