Words play an integral role throughout the play, namely with Claudius. Words are truly his greatest weapon throughout the play. His other great weapon is poison, notably used to kill numerous characters at the end, including himself. But he also used poison to kill King Hamlet, by pouring it in his ear. Basically, both of his weapons are brought into his victims in the same way. The eye on the side could represent Hamlet, and his observation of Claudius’ guilt.
