For Gatsby's Funeral scene, we believe that a single spotlight is necessary and it will be cast down directly on his casket. The darkness that does not surround the light signify the lack of attendance and egoism of those who always went to his parties.
The lighting in this scene from "Newsies" is mostly blue and low intensity, except for the warm light on the four boys on stage left. They are the main focus in this scene and it is obvious from the warm highlight on them. In a strange way, the blue lighting in this scene makes me feel cold and it almost makes me feel like I'm touching steel. I think this could be reflective of the working class and how the news boys are pushing against that.
