Aphrodite of Milos, better known as the Venus de Milo. Created at some time between 130 and 100 BC, it is believed to depict Aphrodite (Venus to the Romans). Venus di Milo carved by Alexandros of Antioch between 130 and 100 BC. Popular belief suggest that the statue is suppose to be viewed from the right profile due to the greater details on the right side of the statue. It is also said that the left arm was extended to hold an apple while the right hand clutched her sliding drapery. In ancient Greek times, the statue would have been painted, placed in a temple, and adorned with jewels, evident by the attachment holes in the arms and neck.
