Old Bill is a fictional character created in 1914 / 1915 by British humorist and cartoonist Bruce Bairnsfather. Old Bill, is an elderly pipe-smoking British “Tommy” (soldier) with a walrus mustache and a trademark balaclava. He made his weekly appearances in “The Bystander” magazine, in a strip called “Fragments from France”, after Bairnsfather was specifically commissioned by the publication.
