This reminds me of "Grandfather Tree," the old banyon on my route home from school every day. I was very sad the last time I waved to him as we passed on my last day of school.

This is a huge fig tree, with a wonderfully spread out shadow. It's the Banyan Tree (Ficus benghalensis), the National Tree of India, also called the Bengal Fig. This one was photographed in Hawaii.

Waimoku Falls, Pipiwai Trail. Awesome Hike past Oheo Gulch (7 sacred pools) You wind through a bamboo forrest and an old banyon tree along the way. About 40 minutes. A little tough for those not comfortable walking uphill. Wooden and Dirt paths. Incredible! If you can handle the drive just past Hana it's not to be missed.
