Mouse's First Fall

I love the simplicity of Mouse's First Fall. It's the first flannel board story I created without copying someone else's idea, so I'm making it my first post on this blog. I scanned a page from the board book and traced Mouse and Minka. I used clipart for inspiration for the leaves. This particular set isn't for sale, but please check out my shop with many of my other sets: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FlannelBoardFun The picture below shows how I store most of my flannel board stories: a zip…

Bzzzz...Said the Bee!

I have a felt set...well, really a Pellon set of animals to use with the text of this great book! I think I adapted the animal patterns from Felt Board Fingerplays many years ago to use for this set. If I could only have 1 resource for storytime this is the book I would have! I have used this book A LOT!! So I made my Pellon animals and colored them with crayons. I did add a tiny google eye to the bee. I had the text of this Easy Reader book typed out and used the animals on the board. It's…

Crown me!

I've been wanting to do a King,Queen/crown theme for awhile but couldn't seem to pull it all into a complete storytime. But!... Ta da! I think it's ready now! This is my chance to use a favorite of mine, King Bidgood's in the Bathtub by Audrey and Don Wood. I could use Lullabyhullaballo by Mick Inkpen or King Jack and the Dragon by Peter Bentley, illustrated by one of my favorites, Helen Oxenbury. Or...I can tell the story of the Princess and the Pea and use this cute idea from Read, Sarah…

Flannel Friday - The Gingerbread Man

It's been a loooooong time since I've done a Flannel Friday, but I really liked this Gingerbread Man song I found on PreschoolEducation.com. It's a nice and easy rhyme, and you can change the animals, add characters, etc. The template came from MakingLearningFun.com. I colored them in, laminated them, cut them out, and placed a magnet on the back. The Gingerbread Man Sung to: "Wheels on the Bus" The gingerbread man ran through the town, Through the town, through the town. The gingerbread man…

Read, Rhyme and Sing: Flannel Friday: Where's My Mom? fun story for mother's day, father's day or just family storytime! Flannel Board Stories, Flannel Boards, Mother's Day Story, Story Time, Mother's Day Theme, Circle Game, Felt Boards, Felt Stories, Flannel Friday

Flannel Friday: Where's My Mom?

Based on the book Where's my mom? by Julia Donaldson You can tuck this one away for Mother’s Day next year, or just flip the mom and dad role and use it for Father’s Day. This one is always a big hit. The book uses rhyming text, but the story is easy to tell in your own words. It generates a lot of discussion with the kids as well. The story starts with LIttle Monkey who can’t find his Mom. Butterfly offers to help. Monkey tries to describe his Mom, “She’s bigger than me....” and butterfly…

There Was A Bold Lady That Wanted a Star

This week I did a 'Rocket' theme and wanted to use this really fun book! This book could work for several themes. You could use it with a transportation theme or stars or space. The pictures are detailed and a little bit small so I made my felt pieces big and used them as I read the book. I found this pattern set to download from The ALA website from the great resource book, Storytime Magic. I tweaked them a little and used the set this week and it was a BIG hit! I heard ooohhhs and aaahhhs…

Flannel Friday: Royal Flannel Board Stories

I have two this week! We just did Fairy Tale storytime, and the kids loved both of these. The adorable knight pattern is from the book Finger Tales by Joan Hilyer Phelps along with the Five Knights in Shining Armor rhyme. I made up a shorter rhyme to use with the five knight and threw in a dragon puppet for added drama. As you might expect, there were some slightly astonished looks as each knight was carried away. But there is a happy ending (Well, a safe ending. Cowering in the castle…
