What is the legacy of over a million women taking on the jobs of men in World War I? They showed that they could work just as well as men, but the 1919 Restoration of Pre-war Practices Act forced them to give their jobs back to men. In 1918, British women over 30 gained the right to vote, and all British women could vote in 1928. Women lived longer healthier lives. Women's contributions to World War I are the foundation of women's independence and citizenship today.
