Mutant Beard Orchid II
Peculiar three lipped variant of Calochilus platychilus (purple beard orchid) flowering in the Peter Murrell Reserve, Tasmania. According to "Orchids of Tasmania" this species is prone to developmental errors so that the labellum is petaloid or (as in this case) all the petals develop the labellum (lip) characteristics. Rather cool effect! A bit of further reading... There's some discussion as to whether Calochilus imberbis is a true species or just a petaloid form of Calochilus platychilus.
