The house is located on the southern shore of a small lake that retains a landscape of reed colonies, beside an expanse of land with ears of rice. Guest Pavilion is a minimal residence located in Quintay, Chile, designed by Tironi Bartlau. The Guest Pavilion is a freestanding extension of a beach house located at the rear of a long, narrow site that faces the Pacific Ocean. By extracting and highlighting what was already there, such as some dimensions of the house and existing trees, the studio set out to not just build an extension in the vacant space but to renovate the entire backyard, creating a series of gardens.

In this project, the existing building was renovated to harmonize with nature as much as possible. Natural stones were used to create steps connecting the outside to the interior. The living spaces and internal garden of our Federal House are wrapped by an open air hall and lay sheltered from the western by sun behind a screen of deep, rough sawn timber battens. The principle bedroom of the Federal House extends out over a shaped black concrete mass that anchors the home to the falling ground.
