Finally, Buchanan caught a cold in May which quickly worsened due to his advanced age. He died on June from respiratory failure at the age of 77 at his home at Wheatland, Pennsylvania. Grave of our 15th President. He was also our 17th Secretary of State. He served as a volunteer for the War of 1812. He is the last Pre-Civil War president and he tried to keep communications between North and South. But he actually made the sides pull farther away which would result in the Civil War. He was the last president born in the 18th century. He is also the only president to never marry. He is buried in Lancaster, Pa at Woodward Hill Cemetery.
