THEY WERE PAINTED ON OVER THE ORIGINAL EYES. Those aren't contact lenses, folks. Sorry if this (once) lovely lady gave you a scare. I also forgot to mention that Victorian Post-Mortem photographs were taken, sometimes, regardless of the manner of death.
