Ferguson is among the most segregated areas in the US with about 2/3 of its 21,100 citizens are black; curiously the police force employs only 2 black people. Ferguson chief Jackson is a 30-year proponent of the war on drugs; officer Darren Wilson 28, lives in Crestwood, Missouri (93.8% white) which is 18 miles southwest of Ferguson (67.4% black).
