Marie Curie (1867-1934) discovered polonium and radium, which led to her extensive radioactivity research and has provided generations of scientists and doctors a fighting chance against cancer. Curie is the only person ever to win a Nobel Prize in two sciences (she won in chemistry and physics.) She also was the first female professor at the University of Paris and the first woman entombed in the Pantheon in Paris courtesy of her life's dedicated work.
