Abandoned New York Central diesel-electric locomotive.

Looking Tired

You might look at this old hunk of steel and think it’s an American Locomotive Co. FA-2, but it’s actually a Montreal Locomotive Works FPA-4. Alco owned MLW ... the FA-2 and FPA-4 were similar in the same way as, say, a Camaro and a Firebird. This engine never ran on the New York Central, either. The person who bought it just decided to have it painted it in the NYCRR scheme. Hope he kept the receipt! On display at the Danbury Railway Museum.

Baldwin's interesting "Baby Face" carbody design. Seen here is New York Central's model DR-6-4-1500 #3201 (one of four A units the railroad purchased) during the late 1940s soon after it was built.

Baldwin "Baby Face" Locomotives: Specs, Photos, Roster

The "Baby Face" was not a locomotive but a specific carbody Baldwin applied to its early cab models. Unfortunately, it was not well-liked.

Alco "PA" Locomotives: Restoration, Specs, Trucks, Photos

Arguably the most beautiful diesel locomotive ever built, sadly no Alco PAs were originally preserved. Today, one is under restoration.
