Century Shoes [ being more familiar with shoe details might translate better to the book cover than clothing details but a decorative book arts book doesn't get the wear a shoe does so I can go for a few more delicate details ]
The eighteenth century monied male was often a peacock, eager to display his taste and wealth, and fond of lavishly decorated or patterned fabrics, and bright striking colours. The usual outfit remained the three piece suit of coat, waistcoat and breeches
Detail of Boot Cuff - Floral Velvet Suit - LACMA. The Boot cuff interestingly, appears to sit on top of the sleeve as a seperate detail altogether. It has 4 buttons and these were quite often functioning but in this case it doesn't look as if they are.
