Girl with a Book. Pietro Antonio Rotari (1707-1762), Italian painter & print-maker of the Baroque period. In Dresden, he became known for his imaginary portraits of figures displaying various emotions, such as the so-called Portrait of a Maid (Warsaw, National Museum). Admirably composed and coloured, these works are painted with great sensitivity of observation. Died in St Petersburg, where he had traveled to paint for the Russian court.

"Paul Cézanne (Aix-en-Provence 1839-1906)". Post-Impressionist French painter. His work have formed the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic inquiry, Cubism. Cézanne's often repetitive, exploratory brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly recognizable. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields. The paintings convey Cézanne's intense study of his subjects.
