Taejo of Joseon, the founder and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea, and the main figure in overthrowing the Goryeo Dynasty. He was posthumously raised to the rank of Emperor in 1899 by Gojong, the Gwangmu Emperor, who had proclaimed the Korean Empire in 1897.

Kim Ok-gyun

Kim Ok-gyun was a reformist activist during the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. He served under the national civil service under King Gojong, and actively participated to advance Western ideas and sciences in Korea. The goal of the reform movement was to develop Korea in government, technology, and military by using Japanese resources, so that Korea would become stable enough in time to withstand increasing Japanese Imperialism. Kim was assassinated in Shanghai.

, 김홍도. 신랑이 혼례 치르기 위해 신부의 집으로 가는 모습이다. 맨 앞쪽 사람이 들고 가는 것은 ‘청사초롱’. 관리들이 밤나들이에 썼으나 평민들의 결혼식에 쓰여지기도 하였다. 그 뒤 사람은 나무로 깍은 기러기를 두 손에 쥐고 있는데, 기럭아비라 한다. 기러기는 한번 짝이 정해지면 평생을 함께하고, 짝을 잃게 되면 혼자 살기 때문에 혼례식 상 위에 올라갔다. 신랑은 흰말을 타고 있는데, 백마는 복을 가져다주는 것으로 여겨졌다. 신랑 뒤에 말을 타고 따라오는 장옷입은 여인은 신랑의 유모인 것으로 보인다. 그림을 처음 보았을 때는 신부의 외모가 준수한 외모의 신랑에 미치지 못한다고 생각하였는데, 신부가 아니었다!! 신부는 집에서 정해진 날짜에 신랑을 맞이하기 위해 큰 잔치를 마련하고 있을 터. 신행은 길일을 택하여 가는데, 신랑의 마음이 얼마나 떨렸을지... 거리가 멀면 신부를 만나러가는 신행길이 고행길이 되었을지 모르겠다.
